Overture is a blend of all five Bordeaux varieties from estate vineyards that are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, this varietal dominates the blend. ![]() As a fine wine, Overture will develop beautifully over time. Full bodied but approachable in its youth, Overture shows generous dark fruit aromas and flavors with a soft, supple mid-palate. When these wine lots are afforded additional time in barrel, in combination with the added flexibility of blending across multiple vintages, the final wine achieves a remarkable elegance and complexity that represents a superb expression of their estate. Nevertheless, in any given year, not all of the parcels from our estate are selected for the final blend of Opus One. Every acre of our estate vineyard is farmed with the attention to detail and singular focus required to produce Opus One. Since 1993, Overture has been crafted as a part of their relentless pursuit of quality for Opus One. (But if the opera is exceptional, then so too will be the overture!) Note: The UPC code differs for each release of Overture and a QR code on the label indicates the vintage composition.Description: Without an opera, there is no overture. Were it not for that I would have been tempted to give it 17. Gorgeous up to the finish which is really rather sudden. Long follow-through and the merest hint of rusty nails on the end – but nothing intrusive. Really delightful to drink now with some (but not excessive) sweetness, a bit of inkiness and mellow mulberry fruit. Mellow, ripe, utterly Napa Valley nose but without excessive concentration. Very dark – blackish – crimson with a pale rim. ![]() 'Overture is a true expression of Opus One's estate vineyards', we are assured. 2021's release of this non-vintage blend of 'the five classic Bordeaux's varieties and aged for 18 months in French oak' based on the two very different vintages 20.
